9 Chemical Free Natural Mosquito Repellents

With all the rain and flooding the US has been having this spring, the mosquitoes are sure to be biting. Mosquitoes respond to the smell of a potential blood sources skin. They respond to body heat and the carbon dioxide you exhale as an added bonus for the pesky insects. There are some scents that mosquitoes can't stand. You can protect yourself from mosquitoes by applying chemical free repellent to your skin or eating a food with a scent that mosquitoes don't like. The best repellents are those without chemicals in them that don't effect your own body chemistry and hormones.

Below are 9 natural mosquito repellents free of chemicals that are harmless to your health unless you have an allergy to any of them.

Lavender Oil – Lavender is volatile to mosquitoes. Lavender oil contains Linalool that is  93% effective in repelling mosquitoes. You can mix water and lavender oil in a spray bottle to spray on your skin. You can find Lavender Oil here

You can grow lavender around your home indoor or outdoors to repel them. Lavender grown in a large pot around your door entries will help keep them out of your home.

Tea Tree Oil – Tea Tree Oil is a powerful combination of antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties that mosquitoes don't like. It is a scent they don't like either. Any repellent that contains Tea Tree Oil is very effective in repelling mosquitoes. Black Pepper Oil – Black Pepper Oil contains a chemical called picaridin that covers your body's natural scent that mosquitoes are attracted to. Mix water and black pepper oil in a spray bottle and apply to skin. Do a patch test first on your skin to make sure your skin doesn't have a negative reaction to the black pepper oil.

Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar – Mix 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray on your skin. Mosquitoes don't like anything acidic and especially the scent of apple cider vinegar is very disagreeable to mosquitoes.

Eucalyptus And Lemon Essential Oils – Add 15 drops each of eucalyptus and lemon essential oils in a spray bottle with water and spray on your skin. The bowl or plate will attract the mosquitoes to dive in, and then they will die from the water, eucalyptus, and lemon essential oil mixture.

Soapy Water – Mix dish detergent and water and then put on a plate to attract the mosquitoes indoors or outdoors. They will go into the water and never leave due to the soap in the water.

Mint – Most of us love the aroma of mint, but mosquitoes hate it. Keep mint plants indoor and outdoor of your home. Mosquitoes will run from mint. Eat a mint leaf with your meal to give your body the scent of mint to repel mosquitoes that way too.
